Cozumel

cozumelCozumel owes its name to the Mayan Indians who lived on the island. According to Mayan legend, Cozumel was the home of the goddess Ixchel, goddess of love and fertility. The inhabitants of the area constructed religious temples dedicated to her. As her show of thanks, she sent them her favorite bird, the swallow.Since then the Mayans named the island “La tierra de las golondrinas” (The land of the swallows).

Cozumel is the largest island of the Mexican Caribbean. Approximately 16 kilometers (10 miles) wide and 48 kilometers (30 miles) long, and is found at the extreme east of the Yucatan Peninsula

In Cozumel you not only find beautiful beaches with turquoise blue water, the second largest reef in the world, limestone caves, tunnels, rare black coral and Mayan ruins with paintings and original stucco, but it also offers a great variety of animals exclusive to the island. All to be enjoyed during your visit.

Tulum

Tulum, whose meaning in Maya is "wall” and is located 128 kilometers (80 miles) from the city of Cancun, is believed to have had the original name of "Zama" which means "to awake,” since by its geographical location you can appreciate the daily spectacular sunrise.

 

Cenotes

Cenote (say-no-tay) is a term that is only used in Mexico and comes from the MayCenotesan word cenotes riviera maya, tulum"dzonot," which means "pit" or "sinkhole"; they are wells of fresh water created by erosion of soft and porous limestone, but in the Mayan world they were fountains of life that gave out the vital liquid. Besides being an entrance to the wonders of another world they were a center of communion with the gods.

In the Yucatan Peninsula cenotes are abundant and to dive and explore these fabulous and mysterious cenotes and their hidden rivers is a moving experience which you can only enjoy in this part of the world.

Dos Ojos (two eyes): Enjoy the marvelous transparency of the water to see the beautiful stalactites that this cenote has. Also visit Chak Mool, Pondesora, Tajmahal, Manati, Verde Lucero, Gran Cenote, etc.
